Sonia first joined the American Section OIB community back in the 80s as a student in the American Section of the Lyc\u00e9e International de St Germain en Laye, France.<\/p>\n

She was born to a French father and an American mother and holds both French and US citizenships.<\/p>\n

She is a graduate from the University of Pennsylvania (History Major) and ESCP Grande Ecole Program (in Management) in France. After a career in the corporate world, Sonia devoted her time to bilingual education to try to make a difference by helping future generations become open confident learners, critical thinkers, and responsible world citizens.<\/p>\n

She joined the Ecole Jeannine Manuel Paris community in 2013 as a History-Geography BFI teacher. She led and coordinated the History-Geography Department (French and Anglophone teachers) for 5 years and set up bilingual HGGSP DNL 2 as well as APs.<\/p>\n

Since 2016, she has been a High-School Deputy Head for the BFI as well as a College Counselor (since 2021), for Ecole Jeannine Manuel.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

A native Californian, Pam studied English and French literature at the University of California at Davis and Berkeley, then at l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019Aix-en-Provence before setting off on a life of adventures around the world, teaching both English and French in Buea, Cameroon, at the University of Nairobi, the Institut fran\u00e7ais d\u2019Ath\u00e8nes, the Escuela de Minas in Oviedo, Spain and finally literature at the Lyc\u00e9e Magendie in Bordeaux where she was head of the International American Section as a professeur agr\u00e9g\u00e9.\u00a0 Her daughter and son grew up in our old country home in the countryside overlooking the village of the philosopher Montesquieu, bringing much joy and many parties to add to our annual OIB graduation barbecues. Pam has been Inspectrice D\u00e9l\u00e9gu\u00e9e de langue litt\u00e9rature for the past ten years, blessed to carry on her passion for teaching and sharing great works of literature with students and teachers around the world.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Claudia has been teaching History, Histoire\/Geographie, English and Theory of Knowledge at the secondary level since 2006. She joined the OIB community in 2007 when her school, the French American School of New York, launched its first high school class, and has been happily preparing students for the OIB and BFI and the IB ever since. She is currently Subject Coordinator for History\/Geography in North America for the BFI, and serves as Head of the English department at FASNY. Prior to embarking on her vocation as a secondary school teacher, Claudia taught journalism at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism as an adjunct professor. She began her career as a journalist with Bloomberg News, where she spent seven years as a reporter in Paris and an editor in New York.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Craig has been teaching in French international sections since 2015, first in the United States at the Lyc\u00e9e Fran\u00e7ais de San Francisco and, as of 2019, at Coll\u00e8ge S\u00e9vign\u00e9 in Paris, where he also serves as the bilingual section coordinator.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Craig received his Bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in Somerville, Massachusetts, double-majoring in English and History. He went on to earn a Master’s in Teaching (Secondary Education) from Northeastern University in Boston.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00e9r\u00f4me is originally a mathematics teacher. After teaching for many years in the Paris region, he joined Ecole Jeannine Manuel Paris in 2006, where there has been an American section since 1985. In 2014, he was appointed Head of Ecole Jeannine Manuel Lille, and a few years later he took on the role of Schools Coordinator for all American sections, except those in North, Central and South America. In this capacity, he organizes the examinations of the American section of the French International Baccalaureate in collaboration with the French Ministry of Education and acts as a liaison between sections, College Board inspectors, subject coordinators, and representatives of the French educational system. Together with Laure de la Giraudi\u00e8re, J\u00e9r\u00f4me collects all possible information and statistics about the existing and future sections and coordinates the organization of our main event, the AAMIS World conference, which usually takes place early October each year.
\nJ\u00e9r\u00f4me has also worked at the French Ministry of Education, DGESCO, as Program Coordinator for Mathematics and Primary Education and at the French National Center for Distance Learning (CNED).<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Born to a Franco-American mother and a French father, Bernard Manuel was first educated in France where he earned degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics as well as the Sciences Po<\/em>\u00a0diploma. Moving to the US, he obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating as Baker Scholar.<\/p>\n

His activities lead him to work in finance and industry until he became chairman of Ecole Jeannine Manuel<\/em> in 1999 and gradually phased out his professional activities to dedicate his time to education and to the Fondation Jeannine Manuel<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A frequent speaker in the field of international bilingual education, Bernard Manuel is chairman of AAMIS and trustee of the Lyc\u00e9e Fran\u00e7ais de New York<\/em> and of the French American Cultural Exchange foundation (FACE) which operates in partnership with the French embassy\u2019s Cultural Services in New York.<\/p>\n

Arthur Plaza\u00a0is the Dean of Innovation and Professional Learning at the\u00a0Lyc\u00e9e Fran\u00e7ais de New York.<\/p>\n

In 2003 he won a U.S. Fulbright Fellowship to France to complete a Ph.D. in History at New York University with an affiliation at the\u00a0\u00c9cole doctorale de Sciences Po.\u00a0His research has been published in collective works, including\u00a0Politiques de la La\u00efcit\u00e9\u00a0(P.U.F., 2007) and\u00a0Religion in the Public Schools\u00a0(Rowman & Littlefield, 2013).<\/p>\n

A history teacher at heart, he has taught Lyc\u00e9e students since 2008 drawing from both French national programs and U.S.-inspired curricula.\u00a0He also served as a\u00a0reader for the College Board’s Advanced Placement Exams and presented at the A.P. Annual Conference.\u00a0An adherent of design thinking principles, he has contributed to curriculum innovation through a social entrepreneurship seminar he teaches.<\/p>\n

To embed educational research at the Lyc\u00e9e, he facilitated faculty professional learning on differentiation, entrepreneurial learning, diversity, equity and justice; as well as learning and the brain. He also earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administrative Policy from Fordham University. The New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) has appointed Arthur to serve on Re-accreditation Committees for its member schools.<\/p>\n

Arthur believes a growth mindset is critical to the success of educators and students; consequently, he launched a 1:1 growth coaching program to nurture a culture of life-long learning among Lyc\u00e9e faculty.<\/p>\n

Jane Ross is an educator with over 40 years\u2019 experience in the field of international education, including a long career at the Lyc\u00e9e Fran\u00e7ais de New York \u00a0She is the founder and President of the Advisory Board of the French Heritage Language Program, and has served on the board of directors of a number of educational institutions with particular focus on international outreach and on the arts, including the American University of Paris, , Pianofest, the Safina Institute and the Deans Council of the School of Marine and Atmospheric Studies of Stony Brook University. She holds a BA from Swarthmore College, an MA from Hunter College CUNY and a PhD in International Education from New York University\u2019s Steinhardt School. In 2008 she was awarded the honor of Chevalier dans l\u2019Ordre des Palmes Acad\u00e9miques by the French government for her service to French education, and in 2016 she received the prestigious Legion of Honor.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

She is the author of Two Centuries of French Education in New York, a book that grew out of her doctoral research, and is also co-author of a number of several scholarly papers and book chapters concerning the development of French Heritage Language programs, bilingual and dual language initiatives.<\/div>\n

Jonathan Scriven is the Associate Director of the Honors College at Washington Adventist University (WAU), just outside Washington, D.C. He is also a member of the teaching faculty in History and Political Studies and leads WAU’s Center for Law and Public Policy. Prior to his work at WAU, Scriven taught OIB History and Geography for 13 years at the Centre International de Valbonne and served as a national examiner for the OIB history\/geography exam.<\/p>\n

Jonathan is a native of Washington, DC, having grown up in the Maryland suburb of Takoma Park. Scriven earned a B.A. in History and Economics from Andrews University (Michigan), a Master’s Degree in History and Education from The Johns Hopkins University, and a Doctorate in International Relations from the Geneva School of Diplomacy and International Relations in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/p>\n
